| Un-still Lives with Traffic 2006 | 2007 Photobased digitally-developed image on archival paper, archival inks 16 inches X 48 inches and 32 inches X 8 feet Dyan Marie’s Un-still Lives With Traffic Among other problems, Bloor and Lansdowne area of Toronto is most famous for its pronounced drug trade in crack cocaine. The resulting fall-out is a main street lined with failed and struggling commercials space where the best-selling items are often lottery tickets and cell phone cards. The area is peopled by a vibrant mix of New Canadians with different nationalities, religions and expectations - their lives are drained into hard work and long hours with a motivating belief that their children’s lives will be better by their commitment. Dyan Marie has lived here for 20 years and has undertaken a long list of projects in the area that identify and explore local concerns and animates community-building art interventions that address them. Her photo-based work, Un-still Lives With Traffic, captures the vitality of the Bloor and Lansdowne area. She offers a portrait of street life in a way that demonstrates the local day-to-day within trailing auras of colour that celebrates the atmosphere. Ann Homan To see images, scroll right. >>> >>>
